Christopher Alexander’s *A Pattern Language* is nominally about towns and buildings. Read it as an infrastructure person and it’s unsettling how directly it maps.

“Light on two sides of every room” is just observability. “Gradual stiffening” is how every good homelab actually gets built — loose and reversible first, rigid only where it has earned it.

The pattern that stuck this read: **things from your life**. A system you run should show evidence of the person who runs it.
